San Diego Museum Of Art
Right in the heart of Balboa Park is the San Diego Museum of Art. Guests have the opportunity to walk among the airy hallways and check out more than 20,000 objects from across the globe, ranging in date from 3,000 B.C. to the present. With works of art from a number of different periods including Renaissance, Baroque, Impressionism and Post-Impressionism it’s a great way to spend an afternoon. Museum Of Contemporary Art, San Diego
The MCASD is a fantastic collection of art from our day and age beginning from 1950 and moving forward displayed at not one but two separate locations. One location sits in the heart of downtown San Diego while the other is in the coastal community of La Jolla. Enjoy free admission to either location on the third Thursday of each month, from 5-7pm.
The New Children’s Museum
For those of you with children, a great way to spend an afternoon is to take them to this fun-filled creative museum. Designed to inspire children through art and creativity the museum offers a wonderful collection of colorful art pieces, interactive displays, and play structures for kids of all ages to enjoy. And if you are a part of a military family enjoy free admission between Memorial Day and Labor Day through the Blue Star Program.
San Diego Air & Space Museum
For the science lovers out there we have the San Diego Air & Space Museum, a fascinating collection of artifacts celebrating the advancements made in the last century to get man off the ground and into the air. The oldest scientific institution in southern California, the San Diego Natural History Museum offers visitors a chance to explore over 8 million specimens collected over the years, showing the rich history of the place we live. Reuben H. Fleet Science Center
At this incredible science center, you can explore and investigate more than 100 interactive exhibits that pique your curiosity including being immersed in an IMAX film adventure that shows the wonders of the planet. Admission is free the first Tuesday of every month for San Diego County residents, San Diego County college students, and active duty Military. (Excludes entrance to IMAX).
San Diego Automotive Museum
Located in Balboa Park, the San Diego Automotive Museum gives visitors a chance to glimpse not only at the rich history of the automotive world but also to see where things are heading with the future of vehicles. Come visit this museum for free on the fourth Tuesday of the month for San Diego County residents, San Diego County college students, and active duty Military (photo ID required).
San Diego Museum Of Man
With an eclectic collection of exhibits including the historic and iconic California Tower, this museum gives visitors a chance to explore all there is to know of the human experience. Timken Museum Of Art
Giving visitors a chance to see the Putnam Collection of European old masters, American art and Russian icons, this beautiful museum shares a fantastic collection spanning centuries. And the best part of this museum is that it is always free to guests. Hours are Tuesday – Saturday 10am to 4:30pm Sunday 1:30pm to 4:30pm. Closed Mondays and major holidays.
BONUS: The San Diego Zoo
This world-famous zoo is home to a fantastic array of animals for people to check out. Elephants, leopards, baboons and grizzly bears are just a few of the species you can see when visiting the zoo. Although they do not have a standard free admission day the zoo does run promotional free times throughout the year for visitors, ie. Kids free admission month during October 2021.
